Grande Prêmio do Brasil, Brazilian GP, São Paulo - Race
Mark Webber opened his account of victory at last with the final race of one of the most amazing season's of all time.
Mark Webber win the Brazilian Grand Prix after a stunning performance throughout the weekend from Red Bull. However, Webber was promoted to first, when Sebastian Vettel faced Gear Box problem and had to let Webber go. But World Champion drove brilliantly to hold of both Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button.
Alonso failed to overtake Vettel. In the later part of the race, Alonso car's faces some mechanical issues with DRS and thus has to give away the podium position to Jenson Button.
As the season main glamor championship battle was already over, there was not much left in the remaining races. But, each one of them added some spice and delighted viewers every time.
Brazilian Grand Prix live upto its reputation of being one of the most exciting races of F1 and also pole sitter again missed out victory in Brazil. Within last 11 years, only 2 times a driver [Felipe Massa], had won from pole in Sao Paulo.
Some of the drivers had given tribute to Legendary Brazilian Ayrton Senna by wearing a special Senna color themed crash helmet which would later be auctioned for Senna Charitable Foundation.
The race started safely with havoc of rains still surrounded the track. Michael Schumacher was the first victim as he tries to overtake Ayrton Senna's nephew who misjudged Schumacher's speed and hit him on the rear right tyre. Schumacher limped back to the pits and thereafter could not recovered from it. Bruno Senna was penalized for the collision as he serves the drive through penalty. Brazilian any hope of making to the top 10 died instantaneously.
Vettel lead the race, until he was told to back off due to gear box problem. From the 13th lap, he saved his gearbox as he turned down the engine, transmission & short shifting. He used only higher gears just like Ayrton Senna back in 1991 on the same track. But the great driver had won the race and Vettel was unable to do that.
Alonso stayed on third position until last few laps. Lewis Hamilton also faced gear box problem and has to end his race prematurely.
Local hero Felipe Massa was not able to provide any excitement to the fans as he finished in 5th way behind the front runners.
However, Force India did a brilliant job in the final race. With Adrian Sutil running faster than Nico Rosberg able to overtake him and finished almost 15sec ahead of Rosberg in 6th. Sutil 6th finish ensured him 9th position in the drivers championship. Paul Di Resta also finished the race in points at 8th. This is infact the best result for Sahara Force India in 2011 repeating Singapore all over again.
Mercedes struggled for reliability and pace as Nico finished 7th and Schumacher after that incident finished 15th.
Kamui Kobayashi another point scoring finish ensured Sauber 7th in the constructors ahead of Toro Rosso. Kobayashi was even instructed on the team radio to drive safely as they needed those points.
Petrov was the last point scorer in 2011 with struggling Renault.
Both the Toro Rosso came behind Petrov in 11th and 12th and could not able to convert into points.
Sergio Perez in the second Sauber finished 13th after an early spin.
Ruben Barrichello finished the home race in 14th which could be the last race of his career. The most experienced driver on the grid with 322 race starts and 326 grand prix entries would probably be left without a seat for 2012.
Massa and Barrichello salute Brazilian fans as Massa performed donuts for the home crowd near the pit entry bypassing FIA laws.
Heikki Kovalainen finishes 16th in his Lotus car which would going to become Caterham next season. Bruno Senna had a disappointing as he finished 17th and 2 laps down.
Jarno Trulli in the second Lotus finsihed 18th ahead of Jerome D'Ambrosio with his last race with Virgin. Daniel Ricciardo in HRT was the last man to finish the race.
Among the other non-finishers are Vitantonio Liuzzi in HRT, Pastor Maldonado who had a spin and hit the wall and Timo Glock who had his first retirement of the season.
